Prior to joining ECE Real Estate Partners in October 2013, Dr. Herbert Thomas headed the legal department of KGAL, an asset manager and initiator of closed-ended funds for retail and institutional investors based in Munich, for six years. In this function Dr. Thomas was in charge of legal aspects regarding structuring and administering funds as well as asset related issues mainly in the area of real estate, aviation and renewable energy. A specific focus has been given to regulatory aspects under the AIFMD and its transposition into national law. Dr. Thomas began his career working with HypoVereinsbank in Munich and London for four years and with HSH Nordbank in Kiel for six years with a focus on cross border transactions. Having graduated from University of Regensburg, Dr. Thomas has passed the bar exam in Bavaria in 1996 with distinction and earned a Master of Laws degree in International and European law from the University of Aberdeen in 1997 before he obtained a summa cum laude doctorate degree from the University of Dresden in 2001.
