Alessandro Malchiodi is the deputy head of the Asset Management unit in the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) of the European Commission. He has been working at the European Commission since 2013, with previous roles as policy officer in bank crisis management and as deputy head of the Economic Analysis and Evaluation unit also in DG FISMA.
Before joining the European Commission, he was an assistant policy analyst at the RAND Corporation in the United States. He holds a Ph.D. in policy analysis from the RAND School of Public Policy, and an M.Sc. in economics and social sciences and a B.A. in public administration from Bocconi University.
This keynote will present the Market Integration and Supervision Package proposed by the European Commission in December 2025. It will place the initiative in the broader context of the Savings and Investments Union, underscoring its urgency and strategic importance for the EU's competitiveness and economic resilience. After outlining the package's main components, the speech will turn to its specific implications for the asset management sector, highlighting the key proposed measures and their role in harmonising rules and strengthening supervisory convergence, with the goal of facilitating cross-border activity and unlocking investment across the EU.
