ALFI becomes founding partner of the Luxembourg Women in Finance Charter

8 March 2023 | Press Releases

International Women’s Day 2023 marks the launch of the Luxembourg Women in Finance Charter. Supported by the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance, this initiative seeks to achieve greater gender balance and inclusivity across the Luxembourg financial services industry.

ALFI promotes this initiative because it is convinced that:

  • Diversity and inclusion improve the workplace culture;
  • Diversity and inclusion are correlated with profitability and value creation;
  • Diversity and inclusion enhance innovation and creativity;
  • Diversity and inclusion help society function more effectively and fairly;
  • Diversity and inclusion will foster Luxembourg’s talent pool;

ALFI has been supporting diversity and inclusion efforts and in particular the increase of gender balance for a few years now. Working group members, speakers at conferences and events are selected by paying particular attention to diversity.

To Corinne Lamesch, ALFI Chairperson, “the Charter will be pivotal in holding the financial sector in Luxembourg accountable for promoting gender equality. By encouraging firms to set targets, monitor and report on progress, I am hopeful that the Charter will foster real change and increase female representation at all levels in the financial sector. With 69 initial signatory firms representing all areas of the financial sector, the launch is clearly a success. But this is just a start, and we invite more firms to join this initiative.”

On this subject, Miriam Henke, ALFI Secretary General, said: “the benefits of including and properly managing a diverse workforce greatly overcome the challenges it brings. Achieving both gender parity and gender equality is the first key step working, in the future, on a more encompassing approach to diversity.”

Britta Borneff, ALFI Director of Events, Communications and Business Development added: "Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our values and play an important part in Luxembourg's success. Achieving greater gender balance and inclusivity will enhance collaboration and lead to greater diversity of thinking and is decisive in building a solid talent pool."
