The Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) today announced the appointment of Corinne Lamesch as the new Chairperson of ALFI following its annual general meeting.
The appointment is effective immediately and will run for two years initially. In addition, a new Board of Directors has been elected.
Corinne Lamesch has been a member of the ALFI Board of Directors since June 2017 and has actively participated in a number of ALFI Technical Committees and Working Groups. She is a regular speaker at industry events and has been actively participating in conferences and roadshows that ALFI is organising in Luxembourg and across the globe.
Corinne is Country Head, Luxembourg and Head of Legal, Europe at Fidelity International and has over 20 years of experience in the Luxembourg fund industry. She joined Fidelity International in 2008 and has also acted as Conducting Officer of Fidelity International’s Luxembourg-based management company since 2015.
Prior to joining Fidelity International, Corinne worked as a lawyer for Clifford Chance and Allen & Overy from 1998 to 2008, advising on the Luxembourg and international investment fund industry. Corinne holds two Masters in Law from Université Robert Schuman, Strasbourg and New York University School of Law. She was admitted as a lawyer to the Luxembourg Bar (1999-2008) and to the New York Bar (since 1998).
Commenting on her appointment Corinne Lamesch said: “I feel honoured to have been elected as the new Chairperson of ALFI. The asset management industry in Europe is at a critical juncture where new political and societal trends will bring both challenges and opportunities. Asset managers have a unique opportunity to strongly influence the strategies of companies globally so they are more aligned with the values of our changing society and better connected to the interests of future generations. These trends will influence the new ALFI Ambition Paper for 2020-2025 that I will prepare for the start of next year. The following three themes will be my immediate priorities for the year ahead:
“1) Sustainable finance has never been more important with climate change high on the agenda of policymakers. Luxembourg is globally recognised as an ideal platform to assist companies, governments and investors around the world to meet their targets in the field of sustainable finance. ALFI will remain committed to making the EU Action Plan a success and actively promote sustainable finance opportunities.
“2) The introduction of the EU’s pan-European personal pension product (PEPP) is a unique new opportunity for mobile European citizens looking to secure their financial future. We will continue to promote the benefits of retirement savings, assist our members with its implementation and help them to seize the opportunities the PEPP offers.
“3) The alternative investment fund industry contributes significantly to the success of the Capital Markets Union, the European Commission’s flagship project to boost jobs and growth in the European Union. Alongside the well-established UCITS brand, ALFI will strongly support the growth and depth of the alternative investment fund sector with Luxembourg as the leading European jurisdiction for all alternative asset classes.”
For now, ALFI’s 2020 Ambition Paper, designed and implemented under the four-year chairmanship of Denise Voss, will form the framework of the Chairperson’s work and remains a strong focus.
ALFI 2020 Ambition: “To enable asset managers and investment funds to fulfil their role of serving investors and fostering economic growth, ALFI will continue to enhance Luxembourg’s position as the international fund centre of reference, recognised as open, reliable and innovative by investors, policymakers and industry alike.”
